Estee Vermeulen

Estee Vermeulen is currently a Masters student at the University of Cape Town. She is locally supervised by Dr. Juliet Hermes, SAEON Egagasini Node Manager and Co-PI of the ASCA project and Dr. Bjorn Backeberg, Chair of the Nansen-Tutu Centre for Marine Environmental Research and co-supervised by Dr. Shane Elipot form the University of Miami RSMAS. Estee was part of the ASCA cruise 2015 helping to collect various oceanographic variables in the Agulhas Current. Her Honors project at the time looked at the Agulhas Current Time-series data (ACT), specically the current velocity and current transport along the ACT array in validation against two regional ocean modelling systems HYCOM and ROMS. The project also investigated seasonal and inter-annual variability of the Agulhas Current. Her interests for a Masters project remains the Agulhas Current, specifically current energy extraction, possibly at the location of the ASCA array.
