Node Manager, Egagasini Node for Marine Offshore Systems. PhD Physical Oceanography, UCT Interests include ocean modelling. climate variability, SW Indian Ocean, SE Atlantic Ocean, Agulhas Current, offshore-coastal interactions, long term observations, as well as student supervision, lecturing and capacity building.

Juliet is Manager and principle oceanographer at the Egagasini SAEON node for marine offshore systems. Her responsibilities include developing and maintaining the science plan and observation and modeling programs, writing project proposals, managing budget, performing research, supervising students and interns, providing leadership (both scientific and business), managing data, networking, sitting on various advisory boards, education outreach, capacity building, maintaining finances, reporting to the SA National Research Foundation, as well as researching climate variability using long term observations and models.

Juliet is also an Associate Professor at UCT. As well as carrying out her management and research, she really enjoys lecturing and supervising students, as well as involvement in the SAEON education outreach program. This is due to her passion and enthusiasm for oceanography and her enjoyment in explaining theories in a way that can be applied and understood. At SAEON she provides management and leadership to a team of scientists and students and enjoys using her knowledge, networks and experience to help them achieve their goals. Her position at SAEON also allows her to interact with learners and teachers through education outreach and awareness and she finds this extremely rewarding.

Her interest and love of the ocean is not purely work driven, and she spends as much free time as possible in the water, mostly surfing but also swimming, snorkelling or diving (open water one).

More information can be found on her C.V.
