Kayleigh was appointed as a research assistant at the node in February 2015. Her core research is focused on extreme weather events, more specifically a severe frost event from June 2014. The impact of more extreme frost events on woody plant species is largely understudied within southern Africa. Our aim is to provide more information about the fate of specific woody species in light of future changes in our climate. We have field sites North of Kimberley, Middleburg, Eastern Cape and Hofmeyr, Eastern Cape.  Kayleigh has an MSc in ecology, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where her research focused on the nutritional quality of elephant diets in association to their movement patterns in a small reserve. SAEON provides a great opportunity to further her interest in ecology and research.
