Grassland, Wetlands & Forest

The Grasslands-Wetlands node is one of six nodes within the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON). It was established in January 2011. Relative to other SAEON nodes it is therefore still young and developing its programs and platforms. We encourage input from stakeholders to provide input and guidance in the development of these platforms to ensure relevance within the global change context.

Grasslands-Wetlands & Forest node is hosted by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the provincial conservation agency for KwaZulu-Natal, at their headquarters in Queen Elizabeth Park Pietermaritzburg, KZN. Working in close collaboration with EKZNW, through an enabling hosting agreement, enables land access to key sites, logistical support and mutually beneficial value adding observation science and research facilitation between EKZNW and the SAEON GWF node.

The SAEON Grasslands-Wetlands node's role is to conduct in situ monitoring to detect human induced global change and understand mechanisms and processes allied to these chanes in these biomes and habitats within South Africa. The intention is that this information will provide insight that will improve our understanding of anthropogenic forcing and what this means for society.
